Global fast-food giant, KFC, is ‘working on’ developing a vegan chicken burger, according to TV presenter Nisha Katona.
Katona, who is also the CEO of the Indian restaurant chain Mowgli, announced she was one of the first to test the plant-based product on Twitter.
‘Living the dream’
“Oh my heaven! On a dream job today- filming for the BBC One Show with exclusive access to the actual KFC headquarters development kitchen. Also, I was the first member of the public to taste the new vegan chicken burger. This to me is actually living the dream,” she wrote.
Responding to comments, Katona described the burger as a ‘brilliant product’, adding: ‘[KFC] are still working on it but truly great start.”
Vegan options
Earlier this year, KFC’S innovation director, Jack Hinchcliffe, said the food chain was ‘currently in the process of working on both vegetarian and vegan options in the innovation kitchen’ in an interview with the Telegraph.
“For us, it’s about taking the amazing tastes of KFC and offering those in a vegetarian or vegan alternative,” he added.
Hinchliffe also ruled out the idea of launching a bean burger, arguing it would ‘let down vegans‘.
