Pizza Hut Germany has launched its first-ever vegan pizzas.

The fast-food chain now offers three totally animal-free pizzas, all of which feature Violife vegan cheese.

There’s the Tuscany Spicy Vegan, which comes with bruschetta, jalapenos, and balsamic vinegar. The Smokey BBQ Vegan is topped with vegan chicken, and the Vegan Chik’n’cheez comes with dairy-free cheese sauce and vegan chicken.

According to Pizza Hut, it created the vegan options in response to customer demand. The chain posted on Instagram: “You wished for it, and we made it happen.”

The chain has also launched a vegan pasta dish: Creamy Cheez Pasta Vegan.

The launch follows a petition from animal rights charity PETA, which started back in 2018. The organization praised Pizza Hut, as well as everyone who signed its petition, in a public post.

“Together we are expanding the vegan range,” PETA stated. “Every vote counts.” It added: “There has never been a better time for Pizza Hut Germany to take this pioneering step.”

Fast food goes vegan

Pizza Hut offers several vegan options around the world. In the US, for example, the fast-food chain added vegan Beyond Meat pepperoni to the menu last year. In the UK, customers can choose from a wide range of options, including vegan stuffed crust.

More fast-food chains than ever are offering vegan options. In the UK, KFC, Burger King, McDonald’s, Greggs, Nando’s, and Subway all have animal-free selections.

Earlier this year, leading restaurateur James Lewis stated his prediction that the future of fast food is vegan.

He said: “There’s no point starting a vegan chain because once McDonald’s figures out how to make a good vegan burger, they will think: ‘What’s the point in the cost of keeping all these animals when we can make it just as good and grow it in the ground?’”
