According to IMPRESS, it exists ‘to ensure quality, independent journalism flourishes in a digital age, helping build understanding and trust between journalists and the public’.
Under its regulation scheme, PBN offers readers a formal process for complaints and concerns, which adheres to the Standards Code adopted by IMPRESS. Complaints can be referred to IMPRESS in certain circumstances (detailed here).
‘Trust in journalism’
“IMPRESS aims to build trust in journalism to the benefit of us all,” says the organization.
“We provide journalists and publishers with the protection and the support they need to do their job, hold the powerful to account, and speak with confidence and security.
“We provide the public with the reassurance that they can rely on the news sources that inform them, entertain them and represent their interests.”
Complaints and concerns
“I’m proud to announce that PBN is now regulated by IMPRESS the Independent UK press authority,” added PBN Co-founder Robbie Lockie.
“So if you have complaints or concerns we have a proper procedure. We take accuracy, transparency, and authenticity very seriously.
“Of course we aren’t infallible, so we try to be transparent when it comes to errors and corrections, which we mark on articles. If you have any concerns about anything you read on PBN, please contact us to let us know.”
In addition, last year, Plant Based News was awarded a 100 percent rating from NewsGuard – meaning it is considered to be a reliable news source.
“NewsGuard uses journalism to fight false news, misinformation, and disinformation,” says the organization. “Our trained analysts, who are experienced journalists, research online news brands to help readers and viewers know which ones are trying to do legitimate journalism – and which are not.”
In order to earn this accreditation, a news site needs to meet specific criteria, which include responsible and accurate reporting, a clear corrections policy, and transparency when it comes to content creators.
