Iconic luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue Pledges has pledged to ditch fur.
The chain published a statement online detailing its decision to stop selling animal fur products by the end of fiscal 2022*.

It has also committed to closing fur salons by the end of fiscal 2021* and eliminating products sold by brand partners by the end of fiscal 2022.
However, Saks Fifth Avenue says it will continue selling products such as leather, down, feathers, lambskin, goatskin and cattle hide.
Anti-fur organization Humane Society International (HSI) says the move ‘comes as the result of consumer-driven pressure’.
A ‘game changer’
Moreover, Kitty Block is the president of HSI and president and CEO of HSI US. In a statement sent to Plant Based News, she described the fur-free pledge as a ‘game changer’.
“Clearly, consumers no longer want animal cruelty in their wardrobes,” Block said. “Credit to Saks for recognizing that the future of luxury is about innovative alternatives that are better for animals and the environment.
“More and more brands and companies are adopting fur-free policies. It’s only a matter when, not if, the few remaining fashion brands will catch up with this new standard.”
*The end of fiscal 2022 is defined as the period ending January 28, 2023. The end of fiscal 2021 is defined as the period ending January 29, 2022.
