Acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix has promoted a vegan charity during this year’s Golden Globes ceremony.

The Joker star was photographed wearing a hoody emblazoned with Animal Equality’s logo. A spokesperson for the charity says Phoenix was given the sweatshirt during a factory farming protest last year.

Joaquin’s ‘iconic’ hoodie

“Joaquin has been spotted wearing our iconic hoodie several times. And we always receive questions from our supporters about where they can get one for themselves,” the organization said to PBN.

“We’re happy to share that we’ve restocked and made them available on our new online store launched today! All profits from purchases will go back into Animal Equality’s programs and initiatives, benefiting farmed animals.”

Golden Globes Ceremony

Last year, Phoenix called out animal agriculture after being awarded for his role as Arther Fleck in Joker.

The vegan actor scooped the gong for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama). Then, he highlighted the role of animal agriculture in climate change.

‘Contrary to popular belief, I don’t want to rock the boat. The boat is already f*cking rocked’.

“First, I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change,” the star said.

” It was a very bold move, making tonight plant-based, and it really sends a powerful message.

“Contrary to popular belief, I don’t want to rock the boat. The boat is already f*cking rocked. It’s really nice that so many people have come up and sent their well wishes to Australia. But, we have to do more than that… I’ve not always been a virtuous man. I have learned so much, and so many of you in this room have given me multiple opportunities to get it right and I’m deeply grateful.

“But together hopefully we can be unified, and hopefully make some changes. It’s great to vote. But, sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives, and I hope that we can do that. We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs. I’ll try to do better and I hope you will too.”

100% vegan menu

Moreover, the 100 percent vegan menu was part of a sustainability push by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

Plant Based News interviewed the actor last year…

“The climate crisis is surrounding us and we were thinking about the new year and the new decade. So we started talking between us about what we can do to send a signal,” said HFPA president Lorenzo Soria.

“We don’t think we’ll change the world with one meal, but we decided to take small steps to bring awareness. The food we eat, the way it is processed and grown and disposed of… All of that contributes to the climate crisis.”
