It posted a picture from Sainsbury’s – which briefly listed ‘Richmond Meat Free 8 Smokes Rashers’ on its website. The new product was priced at £2.50.

Richmond revealed on its own Instagram its new meatless balls – which debut this month.

“BRAND NEW to the Richmond family, we’re so excited for you to try our Meat-Free Meatballs!” the brand wrote.

“Launching next week in a family-sized pack of 16, with the succulent texture and great taste you expect from delicious meatballs. High in protein and a great source of fiber.”

Richmond’s vegan sausages

Back in 2019, Richmond entered the meat-free market after launching vegan sausages

Priced at £2.50 for a pack of eight, the meat-free product is primarily made from soy protein and contain 57.5 calories per sausage – compared to Richmond’s thick pork sausages which contain 132 calories each.

Dawn Spence is the Director of Kerry Foods, which owns Richmond. In a statement sent to PBN, she said: “We know how much people love our sausages – we’re the Nation’s Favourite. But increasingly consumers are looking for a broader range of options to choose from, and this includes alternatives to meat.

“Richmond is one of Kerry Foods’ longest-standing brands, but we’re constantly looking for ways to innovate and meet the demands of consumers.

“We’re confident people will love our Meat-Free Sausages just as much as our core ranges, making this a must-stock for retailers looking to appeal to families looking to try something new in their weekly shop.”
