As the saying goes ‘anything you can do, I can do vegan’, and that’s certainly true when it comes to tasty, plant-based treats.

A list of the UK’s best vegan sweet treats has been compiled by animal rights charity PETA.

According to PETA Director Elisa Allen: “From ice-cream parlours to doughnut shops, all our winners make it possible to indulge your sweet tooth while also being sweet to animals. 

“As all the compassionate eateries on PETA’s list prove, choosing vegan treats today is a piece of cake.”

In no particular order… here are the top 12 destinations for decadent vegan treats in the UK.

1. Vx – Bristol

Scooping up a coveted spot is popular Bristol eatery Vx, whose delicious egg – and dairy-free options include French-style eclairs filled with whipped cream as well as vanilla and caramel ‘monster shakes’ topped with a salted caramel brownie, cream, and pretzels.

2. Yorica – London

This Soho-based ice cream parlour offers dairy-free ice cream, frozen yogurt, shakes, and waffles. Its mouth-watering flavours include rainbow candy, cookies and cream, gooey vanilla brownie, and banoffee. 

There’s also a variety of tasty toppings and fresh fruit sauces.

3. ASK Italian

This popular UK chain serves a range of vegan desserts, including a zesty dark chocolate tart with a nut and date base, served with tangy raspberry sorbet.

4. Shakeaway

Soya-milk shakes aren’t in short supply at this nationwide chain, and its delicious vegan options include Oreo, After Eight, and Turkish Delight flavours. Additional toppings include Starburst, Skittles, and Maoam Stripes.

5. The Lady Luck – Canterbury

Popular Canterbury pub The Lady Luck, whose delicious egg- and dairy-free options include a decadent honeycomb sundae made up of layers of ice cream, chocolate sauce, and homemade vegan honeycomb, earned it spot on the list.

6. The Caffeine Drip – Edinburgh

Delicious options at this quirky eatery in the Scottish capital include sweet French toast covered with maple syrup and topped with ‘bacon’ strips.

7. Rabbit Cafe – Exeter

Essential picks here include decadent ice cream sundaes, luscious cakes, and tantalising tortes.

8. Luna Rossa – Sheffield

Top treats at this Sheffield institution include mouth-watering carrot cake, rich chocolate Oreo cake, and creamy tiramisu.

9. Our Kitchen – Liverpool

Some of the mouth-watering goodies on offer include a speciality ice-cream sundae topped with a choice of granola and blueberries, shaved coconut with mixed seeds and nuts, apple and cinnamon compote, or raspberries, strawberries, and raw cocoa nibs.

10. Ice Shack – Manchester

This popular Manchester eatery Ice Shack makes delicious egg- and dairy-free ice cream flavors, including caramel cookie, mint chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter, and rainbow sugar rush.

11. Doughnotts – Nottingham

For decadent cronuts, that come in a variety of mouth-watering flavors, including double chocolate and cherry Bakewell, head to this Nottingham eatery.

12. Science Cream – Cardiff

Science Cream, in Cardiff, makes innovative ice-cream using almond, hazelnut and coconut as a base. 

Flavors include chocolate, peanut butter, cherry, and strawberry served with vegan toppings including honeycomb pieces made with golden syrup and ginger, hazelnut praline pieces, and real fruit sauces.
