5 Top Tips For Students Doing Veganuary

With an increasing amount of young people around the world switching to a vegan diet, it’s becoming easier to find alternatives in supermarkets and restaurants. 

But for those starting their vegan journey, it can be difficult to know where to start.

Now Veganuary is underway, we have compiled a list of top tips, to help students along their way.

1. Join the vegan/vegetarian society

If there isn’t one, set it up! I did this at my last year at the University Of The Arts, London (UAL) and it’s a good opportunity to network. 

Alternatively you can join local/international groups through social media.

2. Visit local markets to buy fresh fruit and vegetables

This is good if you are on a tight budget – also avoids using plastic from supermarket purchases. 

Find local restaurants that offer vegan food. Cook and buy foods in bulk to save time and money.

3. Be active

Try and remain active with regular exercise; this is also a great change to make friends and distract you from stressful university deadlines.

4. Experiment

If you don’t have much experience cooking, read recipes, join Facebook groups and watch videos online: Bosh TV, Vegan Recipes etc.

5. Find others like you

Share your time with like-minded people with similar interests and find flatmates/friends to cook with.

Do not feel discouraged by others questioning your reasons and keep active. 

Being a student can be challenging but it’s also such an exciting time to meet great people and learn about yourself and the wider world.
