Celebrity singer and actor Willow Smith announced she will be attending the Global Climate Strike in New York on September 20.
The star, who is the daughter of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, said to her 5.4 million Instagram followers: “This Friday, Sept 20, I’m joining youth and millions of people around the world to demand climate justice for all.
“I’ll be performing at the #ClimateStrike in New York City. Wherever you are in the world, you can join me at an event where you live.”
‘This is the day’
The Global Climate Strike was spearheaded by 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg, who went viral for sitting in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis.
In her latest interview with Teen Vogue magazine, the environmentalist said people need to think about the strike from a ‘bigger perspective’.
“If you can’t be in the strike, then, of course, you don’t have to,” Thunberg said. But I think if there is one day you should join, this is the day.”
