Musician Miley Cyrus has won a peta2 award for her vegan advocacy.
The award – given by the youth division of animal rights charity PETA – was announced as part of the organization’s 12th Annual Libby Awards. (‘Libby’ is short for ‘liberation’ – as in animal liberation).
According to a peta2 spokesperson: “Miley Cyrus nabbed the title of Best Voice for Animals for the second year in a row, thanks to her tireless promotion of vegan eating and animal issues on social media.”
Winners
Other honorees included blink-182, the two-time winner of Most Animal-Friendly Band, thanks in part to drummer Travis Barker’s peta2 ad, Miley’s sister Noah Cyrus, who snagged the Best peta2 Ad award for her anti-SeaWorld campaign, and Shameless actor Emma Kenney, who earned the Brightest Star for Animals award after her anti-breeder rant was a huge hit.
Also awarded were Kat Von D Beauty (Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Company) and goodDYEyoung (Best Vegan Hair Dye), created by Paramore’s Hayley Williams.
‘Empowering’
peta2 Senior Director, Marta Holmberg, said: “From encouraging fans to go vegan to reminding everyone to stay away from SeaWorld, today’s hottest stars are empowering young people to make kind choices.
“peta2 is recognizing Miley and Noah Cyrus, blink-182, Emma Kenney, and other celebrities who are using their star power to help animals.”
