A young vegan entrepreneur has announced the launch of his first cookbook.
Omari McQueen, 12, is the founder and CEO of award-winning plant-based dipping sauce business Dipalicious Dips. He is also thought to be the youngest restaurateur in the world after running a vegan pop-up restaurant in Boxpark, Croydon last Summer.
Now McQueen has announced his latest venture: a book called Omari McQueen’s Best Bites Cookbook that will be published in January 2021.
‘Excited’
McQueen revealed the news in an Instagram post, writing: “I am so excited to announce that my first published book will be out in January. I would like to thank everyone for all your love, support, and encouragement.
“I would also like to say thank you to the one and only @oscarjansonsmith. You have had my back for years, you believed in me from the beginning and @krugercowne @scholastic_uk for giving me a chance to share my passion to the world. The cupcakes did it for me.
“Mummy and Daddy, you’re the best a boy like me could have. Thank you to my siblings and family for being you – perfect.”
‘Inspirational’
Publishing manager Leah James, who acquired world rights for McQueen’s book from Oscar Janson-Smith at Kruger Crowne, said: “Omari McQueen is inspirational. At just 12 years old, he has achieved so much.
“His passion for food and cooking is irresistible. Children everywhere have been busy learning to cook during lockdown; we can’t wait for Omari to share his recipes, tips and enthusiasm with a generation of children and their families.”
Going vegan
According to Omari’s mother Leah McQueen, her son decided to go vegan when he was eight.
After learning about the way animals are treated in the meat, egg, and dairy industries through his own research, he decided that ‘he would never let an animal hurt for him again’.
He then decided to make food that everyone could enjoy and started experimenting in the kitchen – which led to him starting his businesses, and writing his upcoming book.
