A vegan supplements company is set to ditch all its plastic packaging and replace it with 100 percent compostable materials.
Vivo Life, which sells a range of plant-based protein products among others, wants to become as environmentally-friendly as possible.
Eliminating plastic
“Starting from next month we will begin eliminating all plastic from our business and launching 100 percent home compostable packaging across our entire product range,” the company said.
“Collectively stamping out plastic use is the biggest change we can make for the future of our planet. Every year millions of tonnes of plastic are sent to landfill and dumped into our oceans, and we all need to take responsibility.
“Even recyclable packaging isn’t enough, as it is rarely recycled more than once and still takes over 1000 years to decompose. This is why we have been working so hard to create truly sustainable, zero waste packaging for all of our products. We wanted a solution that actually makes a difference and doesn’t just put a bandaid over the problem.”
The company is going compostable
Compostable
Vivo Life has created packaging that is 100 percent ‘home compostable’ – meaning it is made from plants and can be composted in your food waste or garden.
The company has launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund its first production run. Those who take part, can order home-compostable products at a discounted rate.
“As soon as we hit our target we will begin our first production run of home compostable packaging, and will ship you your chosen products as soon as they are ready,” said the company. “We will also plant one tree for the purpose of reforestation and agroforestry for every pledge received.
“By the end of this year Vivo Life will be a 100 percent plastic free business and all of our products will be sold in home compostable packaging.”
