Vegan activists will flank the red carpet on the opening night of the Toronto International Film Festival to protest its sponsorship by Canada Goose.

The brand – which is controversial because of how it kills coyote and geese and then uses their skin and feathers in its coats – is no longer a partner of the Berlin Film Festival, which decided not to renew its contract with the clothing company, citing ‘evaluating the strategic orientation of the festival’ as a reason.

Now animal rights charity PETA wants Toronto to ‘ follow the lead Berlin stop partnering with Canada Goose‘.

Protestors will flank the red carpet between 6:30– 8:30 pm (EST) tonight at Reitman Square, screening video footage of ‘coyotes struggling in traps before hunters arrive to shoot them and workers at a Canada Goose down supplier rounding up terrified geese’.

The charity says: “PETA’s mobile billboard – showing a man in a Canada Goose coat holding a bloodied goose and coyote – will also circle the Bell Lightbox building all week.”

PETA Executive Vice President, Tracy Reiman, said: “All kind people should critically pan Canada Goose’s cruelly obtained fur-and-feather coats. PETA is urging Toronto International Film Festival attendees to turn their backs on Canada Goose until the company agrees to stop tormenting and killing geese and coyotes for its coats.”
