Over 100 vegan activists occupied an Australian cattle farm earlier this week, wearing black tops that read ‘meat the victims’, whilst another 50 protested outside of the facility.
The activists, who dub themselves as ‘animal liberationists,’ discovered three cows that had been shot dead as they entered the Lemontree Feedlot in Queensland.
The farmer, David McNamee, was recorded shouting at protestors: “Don’t go f*****g through. This is ridiculous,” and “Get off my f*****g country.”
McNamee also argued the cows were ‘shot humanely’ – causing one activist to respond ‘how do you humanely shoot a cow?’.
Taking responsibility
Vegan activist, and creator of the Meat The Victims movement, Leah Doellinger, wrote on Instagram: “Meat the Victims is reminding us that the victims are only there because of our choices, so we need to take responsibility for that truth, and of who we are, and what we are standing for.
“It’s as simple as right vs wrong. There’s no in between when it comes to others suffering at our mercy.”
‘No humane way to kill someone’
Doellinger added: “The message we are sharing is simple: animals are here with us, not for us. Animals lives are their right and what is happening to them is unjust, needless violence.
“There is no humane way to exploit and kill someone.”
