An entrepreneur in Cornwall aims to address poverty in the county by running a vegan catering trailer.

Setting up 100 percent plant-based eatery Vood Bar earlier this year, Danielle Clancy donates leftover foods to shelter and refuges – and in hopes of doing more, she has launched a crowdfunding campaign for her upcoming trailer called Vood Box.

Through the crowdfunder, Clancy aims to help the Cornish community by running programs giving away meals to the homeless, running charity events, and training people living in poverty in customer services.

As a catering business venture, Vood Bar offers vegan street food, specializing in weddings, events, and private functions.

Vegan

A vegan herself, Clancy is passionate about sharing the same message with others.

“Veganism is at the heart of everything we do,” she told PBN.

“There’s not a day that goes by that someone says to me ‘Wow I can’t believe that’s vegan, I thought vegan food would be horrible’. Giving people that eye-opener in a positive, friendly way is what Vood Bar is all about!”

Poverty

“Poverty is very high here in Cornwall, so homelessness is something I see everyday.”

“Also with a background in childcare, I have worked with a lot of children who have had difficult upbringings and many who have witnessed domestic violence. These are certainly common challenges that I hold close to my heart and areas I’d love to have an impact on.

“Vood Bar as it stands does everything possible to support these groups of people by donating left over foods to shelters and refuges but we want to have a bigger impact!”

Inititatives

Clancy intends on reducing hunger in Cornwall by running a ‘buy one give one’ program, an initiative where customers buy a meal and give an extra £3 that she will then match to fund a meal for someone in need.

The entrepreneur is also set on educating the public to support challenges such as homelessness and unemployment, as well as organizing four charity events a year.

She will offer people living in poverty the chance to spend time in the Vood Box trailer, where they will be trained in customer services, basic cookery skills, kitchen safety, and how to eat healthily on a budget; the vegan eatery will also be creating job opportunities.

Once the target is met, Clancy plans to run regular workshops and masterclass, teaching people how to bake plant-based cakes.
