The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins has lost 35lb (2.5 stone), according to The Sun.
The reality TV celebrity took to Instagram to reveal how she had dropped the pounds – telling her fans it was down to her ‘vegan lifestyle’.

Collins posted a picture of herself dressed in matching white trousers and T-shirt from PLAYBOY.
She captioned the image: “En route to Manchester and I’m so excited to see [my friend] Dawn Ward.
“Thanks for your weight loss comments my hard work is defo paying off. #veganlifestyle #eatlifenotdeath.”
Dr. Barnard talks about the health benefits of a plant-based diet
Vegan diet and weightloss
According to plant-based health organization Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), whose president is Dr. Neal Barnard, following a plant-based diet can be an effective way to lose weight.
“A Physicians Committee study tested a plant-based diet in a group of 64 women,” says the organization. “At the start of the study, all of the women were moderately or severely overweight. Participants followed two simple rules: They set aside all animal products and kept oils to a minimum. They lost about a pound per week, without calorie counting or exercise. After two years, they maintained the weight loss.
“Plant-based diets can help you lose weight and keep it off because they are packed with fiber, which helps fill you up, without adding extra calories. Aim for 40 grams of fiber a day, which is easy to do when you move vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans to the center of your plate.
“By skipping meat, cheese, and eggs and limiting oils, you’re also removing a significant amount of fat from your diet. This helps keep the pounds off, because 1g of fat – from beef, fish, or oil – has nine calories. Compare that to 1g of carbohydrate from potatoes, bread, or beans, which has only four calories – fewer than half of the calories found in 1 gram of fat.”

Gemma Collins isn’t the only UK celebrity to have improved her health following a vegan diet – earlier this week Simon Cowell revealed that he has already ditched meat and dairy, and plans to drop fish too, and ‘go the whole way’ to a plant-based diet.
“I cut out a lot of the stuff I shouldn’t have been eating and that was primarily meat, dairy, wheat, sugar – those were the four main things,” Cowell told The Sun.
“It was way easier than you may think. Like, I used to have yogurt in the morning and I changed it to almond-milk yogurts. I have almond milk in my tea. I can eat certain fruits but not all fruits. You have to be careful because some fruit can have more sugar than a can of Coke.
“Once you get into a pattern I’ve found it quite enjoyable. It has helped me sleep and I wake up feeling less tired. I noticed a massive difference in how I felt in about a week.
“I have more energy and focus and it wasn’t difficult. I don’t like to use the word diet because that’s the reason I never went on a diet before – the word diet makes me miserable.”
