A turkey-themed race will be taking place in Los Angeles this weekend in a bid to raise awareness of the horrors of factory farming, just ahead of Thanksgiving.

The 5K ‘Tofurky Trot‘, which is sponsored by vegan foodie brand Tofurky and organized by the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition (FFAC) will see people of all ages and fitness levels wearing turkey-themed apparel and running for the cause of veganism.

Event

A charity fundraiser, the race will be followed by a Vegan Food Fest, with vendors such as Taqueria la Venganza, Mama’s International Tamales, and Ripple Foods serving decadent animal-free eats.

“It’s a fun way to encourage people to branch out and explore a more compassionate Thanksgiving meal, try some delicious foods, and to encourage the health of the community by getting people active,” Katie Cantrell, executive director of FFAC told news outlet Los Angeles Magazine.

The tickets for the race are $40 in advance or $50 on the day, and they include admission to the post-trot Vegan Food Fest.

The Tofurky Trot takes place in Griffith Park this Sunday, November 12 from 10am to 3pm.
