Sopranos actor Edie Falco has spoken out about her vegan lifestyle.
The star, who is best known for playing Carmela Soprano in hit HBO series The Sopranos, has performed in a number of other high profile shows, including Nurse Jackie and Oz.
In an interview with Parade about her current role in Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, Falco mentioned her passion for animal rights.
Vegan
Speaking about her lifestyle, Falco said: “I’ve been a vegetarian for 16 years, and a vegan for eight months.
“It’s not always easy to find what I need, although being in New York, I find places to go. Being in Santa Monica, supplies are also pretty easy to come by.
She became vegan after working with animal rights charity PETA.
Cruelty
“I work with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals),” said Falco.
“That’s one reason I became vegan. It’s hard to justify working for animal rights when you eat animal-based foods.
“Animals are mistreated in ways I had not imagined. I believe this is at the base of everything bad in society – you can bring it back to cruelty to animals.
“If you don’t have respect for life of any kind, it will manifest in more obvious ways.”
