A new BBC video asks what happens to our recycling after its been collected by the council?
The video is part of the BBC’s series War on Plastic with Hugh and Anita, where Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Anita Rani look at the amount of plastic we produce, and ‘challenge big businesses to do more to reduce the plastic in their products’.

“What happens to our recycling after its been collected by the council?” the video asks.”665 tons of our plastic last year were exported overseas.
“After China banned plastic imports in 2018, much of our recycling is being shipped to Malaysia, where it can end up in illegal sites.”
Looking at the large sites of plastic, Fearnley-Whittingstall said he was angry – and ‘felt like he’d been lied to’.
