Activists from the Climate Save Movement have organized a protest outside the Brazillian Embassy in London, in order to raise awareness of Amazon deforestation.
The protest follows Brazil’s president’s recent announcement that the regulation and creation of new indigenous reserves will be transferred to the agriculture ministry.
‘The lungs of our planet are under serious threat’
Climate Save Movement said: “The lungs of our planet are under serious threat from new Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who seeks to destroy the Amazon rainforest in favour of corporate gain. When those lungs die, the heart will stop beating.”
The demonstration will take place on Valentine’s day (February 14) in London, beginning at 12 pm and ending at 5 pm, with guest speakers yet to be announced.
‘A pro-vegan message’
On its Facebook page, Climate Save Movement said: “The single most effective action that we can all take to save the rainforests is to adopt a vegan lifestyle since the vast majority of the world’s soy production is used as animal feed.
“This day of action will also carry a pro-vegan message, encouraging the public to think about how our own actions have an impact on the world around us.”
