Celebrity singer-songwriter Pink, real name Alecia Beth Moore, has pledged to donate $500,000 directly to local state fire services Australia’s bushfires continue to burn.

Since September, more than 200 bushfires have swept across the country killing at least 23 people and burning 12 million acres of land – more than 1,000 homes have also been destroyed.

‘Totally devastated’

“I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires,” the star wrote on Instagram to her 7.4 million followers.

“I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.”

‘A world issue’

This isn’t the first time Pink has used her platform to raise awareness of environmental disasters. Earlier this year, the singer posted a picture of the fires that had spread through the Amazon Rainforest.

“Don’t pray for Brazil or the Amazon. Pray for yourself. The amazon provides 20 percent of our oxygen every year and it’s been burning at a record rate right now and for the past 18-19 days,” the image was captioned.

“This is a WORLD issue and emergency and affects all of our security.”
