A vegan camping event that was set to take place next month has been cancelled.

Our Vegan Weekend 2018‘, a non-profit event in aid of Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary, was set to bring together a host of activists and advocates including Joey Carbstrong and Hench Herbivore.

But a combination of local resistance to the event, and low demand for tickets, led to organizers pulling the plug.

‘Great sadness’

According to a statement by organizers: “It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of Our Vegan Weekend 2018.

“Behind the scenes, we have been dealing with significant licensing issues and numerous objections from the local community around the campsite. This is through no fault of ours but has been caused by ‘bad behaviour’ from other festivals which use the site.

“Added to this, demand for tickets has been lower than anticipated which was likely to make the event unviable for our vendors. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, we really appreciate your support. We will be contacting you direct to organize refunds.”
