William Morris Endeavor Entertainment’s (WME) Oscars pre-party has gone plant-based ‘in support’ of celebrity actor and vegan advocate Joaquin Phoenix.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the party, which will be held at a private residence on February 7, will partner with Los Angeles eatery Nic’s on Beverly.
The menu is said to feature ‘all-vegan hors d’oeuvres, a main course, and desserts, plus a spread from caterer This Messy Table’.
Stars including Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Florence Pugh are rumored to attend.
Plant-based menu
This isn’t the first high-profile awards event to serve an entirely plant-based menu.
Earlier this year, the Golden Globes became the first major awards show to go all-vegan as part of a sustainability push by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA)
Joker star Joaquin Phoenix, who scooped an award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama), praised HFPA in his acceptance speech.
“First I would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change, it’s a very bold move, making tonight plant-based,” he said.
The food was also praised by celebrity actor Brad Pitt, who said he was ‘all for the vegan thing’.
Since then, the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have followed in suit and removed animal products from its menus.
