Babe actor – and longtime vegan – James Cromwell could face jail after being charged with trespass following a daring SeaWorld protest in July.
The charge – which is a misdemeanor – carries a potential $400 fine and up to 90 days in prison – if Cromwell is convicted.
‘SeaWorld sucks’
Cromwell was charged with trespassing after leading the protest this summer.
Wearing a shirt emblazoned with the words ‘SeaWorld Sucks’, Cromwell stood up in front of the crowd at an orca ‘show’ at the park, and spoke about SeaWorld’s mistreatment of animals.
He – along with fellow protestors – was led away in handcuffs.
Publicity
Speaking to the Mail Online, Cromwell said: “Even when we were found guilty: no publicity. But when celebrities go to jail, oh wow it’s a story suddenly.
“We can’t demonize people because of their political stance.
“We have to say: “Look, it won’t matter ultimately whether you’re Republican, radical right, or progressive”.
“All that will matter is that we’re able to drink the water, breathe the air, live on the land. That’s what’s threatened.”
