A leading animal rights charity has claimed it is ‘freaking out’ over news that Orange Is The New Black Star [OITNB] Laverne Cox is vegan.
The star, who plays Sophia Burset on the Netflix dramedy, made the announcement via an Instagram video with former OITNB co-star Ruby Rose.
In the video, Cox says she has been vegan for 12 weeks, adding: “Look who I ran into, guys [Ruby Rose]!
“I just found out that we’re both vegan. [Ruby] looks amazing.”
Rose describes veganism as ‘the best thing ever’, and tells Cox how good she is looking.
Freaking out
After seeing the video, leading animal charity Mercy For Animals claimed it was ‘freaking out’.
Writer Joe Loria added: “The Netflix show explores a lot of social issues, such as racism, sexism, LGBT rights, and criminal justice reform.
“Have the actors’ roles inspired them to make the switch and advocate a compassionate vegan diet?
“While the jury is still out on that, we’re thrilled to see these amazing women using their platform to discuss veganism.”
