Orange is the New Black actor Danielle Brooks has announced she has been plant-based for two months – and it helped her learn to only use food as fuel.
Brooks, who plays Taystee in the highly-acclaimed Netflix series, has decided to try a plant-based diet in July, in a bid to go from living to eat to eating to live.
The actress has recently told the hosts of the ABC’s The Chew that it’s her two-month vegan anniversary.
She has previously spoken out about loving her ‘new vegan life’ on social media.
Plant-based
The star explained that she was raised on Southern comfort food, which had an impact on her eating habits.
She told the talk show hosts: “I like to eat. I’m from the South. You know, big mama’s mac and cheese, greens, chicken and all of that stuff.”
“But I was never taught how to eat properly, how food is fuel. So this is my way of teaching myself how to eat properly, how to eat to live I guess.”
Brooks has also cooked vegan mac and cheese with the chefs of The Chew, as well a pad Thai and a vegan gingerbread cake.
