London is set to host a vegan and zero waste market this weekend, described by organizers as the ‘first of its kind’.

Zero Mkt London will take place on September 29, in at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington..

Everything on offer will be edible, reusable, recyclable or compostable. Guests will have an array of stalls to explore, ranging from vegan food and drink, eco-lifestyle products, and sustainable clothing items. In addition, there will be free talks and workshops throughout the day.

Any profit from the event will be donated to leading animal protection organisation Animal Equality and surplus food will be redistributed to London’s homeless community by City Harvest.

Vegan and zero waste

“We set up Zero Mkt to bring together like-minded people in the hope that we can join forces and build a better, more sustainable future for generations to come,” Abigail Penny and James Morgan (Founders of Zero Mkt) told Plant Based News.

“For us, veganism and zero waste naturally go hand-in-hand.

“They give us an opportunity to heal, protect and preserve our world and all of the beings on it.”

‘Pivotal point’

“We’re surrounded by such beauty, but we’ve been taking our incredible planet for granted for too long,” they added.

“It’s predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish; 56 billion land animals (and trillions of sea creatures) die each year to end up on our plates; and fast fashion is leaving us with overflowing landfills.

“We’re in the midst of a climate crisis, but right now is a pivotal point in history and by changing what we buy we can change the planet’s course. What an empowering thought!”

Zero Mkt London founders recognize that many stallholders will need to travel to the venue, so they will be planting trees as part of a carbon offsetting mission.

Zero Mkt London takes place on September 29 between 10am and 5pm at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington. You can find out more about the event and buy a ticket here
