Award-winning musician Moby will officiate a ceremony crowing Los Angeles as 2018’s Most Vegan-Friendly City in the U.S later today.

The award, given by animal rights charity PETA, will be celebrated with a reception at the musician’s Silver Lake bistro, Little Pine

According to PETA, the event will also feature an ‘impressive replica of the Hollywood sign’ carved entirely out of vegetables by renowned chef Ray Duey. A spokesperson for the charity said: “Los Angeles is vegan heaven – it’s no wonder that vegan celebs Natalie Portman, Jessica Chastain, Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, and many others call La La Land home. The city is also home to an impressive array of eateries for every occasion and every craving.”

Vegan food galore

Moby added: “Los Angeles has now been named the vegan capital of the world, and I’m proud to live here because there is vegan food galore.

“What led me to adopt a vegan lifestyle is simply that I love animals and don’t want to contribute to their suffering in any way. Most Angelenos know that you can also help the planet by reducing your carbon footprint and lower your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and so many other health issues by eating this way.

“Vegan eating is really a magic bullet that solves so many of today’s problems in one bite.”

Moby has now been vegan for around 30 years and during that time has engaged in various types of activism. Sharing his reasons for ditching animal products, he said he’s vegan for the environment as well as human health.

He added: “But ultimately I’m a vegan for the animals. I love animals, but even if I didn’t I’d still believe to the core of my being that animals are neither ours to eat, wear, or experiment on.

“Animals have their own lives, and their own rights, and advancing the cause of animal rights is my life’s work.”
