Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has publicly called on the Spanish government to end bullfighting schools, which he described as ‘truly disgusting’.

The vegan advocate and pro racer shared a graphic video from animal-rights charity PETA showing the cruel methods of bullfighting to his 16.6 million Instagram followers.

‘Torture and kill’

“This is truly disgusting Spain! Kids in Spain are taught to torture and kill bulls – starting at the age [of] 14,” Hamilton said on his Instagram Stories.

“We’re asking Spain’s Ministry of Education to close bullfighting schools immediately.”

Black Lives Matter

This isn’t the first time Hamilton has used his platform to raise awareness of social injustice. The athlete has been consistently vocal about police brutality against black people during the Black Lives Matter protests.

“This past week has been so dark. I have failed to keep hold of my emotions. I have felt so much anger, sadness, and disbelief in what my eyes have seen,” he wrote.

“I am completely overcome with rage at the sight of such blatant disregard for the lives of our people. The injustice that we are seeing our brothers and sisters face all over the world time and time again is disgusting, and MUST stop.”
