Formula 1 champion and vegan advocate Lewis Hamilton has praised a plant-based diet for its positive impact on the environment.
In a recent Instagram post, the pro racer told his 19.9 million followers he’s recently been ‘making my changes’ to his life in an effort to reduce his impact on the planet.
‘Permanent change’
“I have offset my carbon footprint from my Formula 1 career dating back to 2007, I have reduced travel where possible, I have gone plant-based and outside of the track, I try to use electric cars wherever possible,” Hamilton said.
“I also want to use my position as a racing driver to enforce positive and permanent change, which is why I’m working closely with Mercedes to slowly move their fleet of cars towards electric.”
Hamilton recently featured in Mercedes’ latest campaign – which promoted veganism and ‘forward-thinking’ sustainability.
“It took me a long time to realize that I have this incredible platform. So I took action to go vegan and raise awareness of a more conscious way of living,” the star said.
“I’d like to look back and think I’ve helped change an industry to being diverse and forward-thinking and being a part of the change for a greener world.”
