Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has shown off a faux fur coat on social media – just months after describing the fabric as her ‘new thing’.

She shared images of the coat, which was gifted by Givenchy, on Instagram Stories, with her 114 million followers.

A note from Givenchy’s Communications Director Youssef Marquis accompanied the gift. It said: “My sweet Kim. A little treat for the summer… or the winter. Love ya! PS: It’s all FAKE!”

Fur family

Although Kim has been flirting with alternatives to fur, it is not clear whether the rest of her family have followed suit: earlier this year younger sister Kendall Jenner – a model – was blasted after being spotted in animal skins.

After wearing a coat with a large fur collar as part of a runway modelling job for brand Dsquared2 at Milan Fashion Week, Jenner posted a picture of herself in the outfit on Instagram, captioning it ‘this coat’.

She received a furious online backlash, with one commentator saying: “Kendall Jenner, you are a disgrace, millions of young girls look up to you and you’re encouraging them to have no respect for the beautiful animals on our planet. How can you think wearing fur is ok? I hope karma catches up with you soon.”

A number of top designers have gone fur-free in recent times. The growing list of fashion houses who have pledged to ditch fur include Versace and Belstaff.
