Jamie Oliver: ‘I Love Vegans – 70% Of My Output Is Meat-Free’

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver says he loves vegans – and that between 60 and 70 percent of his content is meat-free.

He made the comments while talking to high profile vegan athlete Timothy Shieff, who shared them in a recent vlog.

Shieff made the blog while recording a recent episode of Jimmy and Jamie’s Friday Night Feast, focusing on veganism. Oliver said: “It’s a mainstream Friday night show that goes around the world and we have the whole show dedicated to it.”

‘I keep loving you’

Speaking to Shieff for his vlog, Jamie Oliver said: “I get quite a bit of grief from vegans online, but that doesn’t stop me, because even though you might not like some of the things I do, actually I keep loving you because 60-70 percent of my output is veggie/vegan.

“We’re trying to take the public – the global public on a stepping stone journey – to eat more veg, more plants, more herbs and fruits.”

He later added: “I think the message for me is that we should be eating more plants, eating less or no meat.”

‘The future is about a plant-based diet’

Shieff and Oliver have spoken before about veganism and plant-based diets, back in 2015, with the celebrity chef famously proclaiming ‘the future is a plant-based diet’. And while Oliver still cooks, eats, and sells meat in his restaurants, he has been part of multiple initiatives this year to promote the value of veggies.

Launching his five-day vegetarian challenge in May, he said: “With this challenge, I want to inspire everyone – veggies and meat-lovers alike – to embrace the wonderful world of veg, every day. Knowing how to make veg and fruit the stars of the show is such an exciting way to cook.
