Climate activist Greta Thunberg hit back at her critics – saying she doesn’t understand why adults criticize her for her looks, for promoting science, and for having Asperger’s syndrome.

The 16-year-old, who recently made a passionate speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York, was recently branded ‘mentally ill’ by right-wing commentator Michael Knowles. She was also mocked by US president Donald Trump, who sarcastically branded her a ‘very happy girl’.

Thunberg took to social media to tackle some of this criticism, as well as discuss what she described as people who ‘threaten children for promoting science’.

‘Haters going after me’

“Here we go again… As you may have noticed, the haters are as active as ever – going after me, my looks, my clothes, my behavior, and my differences. They come up with every thinkable lie and conspiracy theory,” she wrote.

“It seems they will cross every possible line to avert the focus, since they are so desperate not to talk about the climate and ecological crisis. Being different is not an illness, and the current, best available science is not opinions – it’s facts.

“I honestly don’t understand why adults would choose to spend their time mocking and threatening teenagers and children for promoting science when they could do something good instead. I guess they must simply feel so threatened by us.”
