Hollywood heavyweight Leonardo DiCaprio has invested in plant-meat tech startup Beyond Meat.
DiCaprio, who is known to advocate eating less meat for environmental reasons, has become an official investor in the high tech company.
The vegan, sustainable brand has gained acclaim for its flagship Beyond Burgers, which taste and look like meat – but are made entirely from plants.
Plant-based
According to DiCaprio, plant-based meat is the future.
He says: “Livestock production is a major contributor to carbon emissions.
“Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate.
“The company’s ability to create healthy meat directly from plants will go a long way in helping everyday consumers take action on climate change.”

‘Thrilled’
CEO of Beyond Meat, Ethan Brown, expressed his enthusiasm for DiCaprio’s investment.
“I am thrilled to officially welcome Leonardo DiCaprio to the Beyond Meat family,” Brown said.
“His investment and role as an advocate are proof that he shares our vision for creating satisfying, delicious meat directly from plants in an effort to benefit human health, the environment and animal welfare.
He added: “Leo was helpful early on in providing feedback on our burgers as we readied them for market. We will continue working together to ensure we develop excellent products that meet the highest standards in environmental friendliness.”
