French food giant Danone has invested $10,000,000, through its investment arm Danone Manifesto Ventures (DMV), to support plant-based company Laird Superfood.

The company says it will use the money to develop new vegan offerings, as well as expand its manufacturing capacity.

Laird Superfood, a five-year-old company, currently sells ‘superfood’ coffee creamers, coconut water powder, and hot chocolate powder with ‘functional mushrooms’.

‘All-natural ingredients’

“We only use real, all-natural ingredients. You’ll never find anything artificial, lab-made, or synthetic in any of our products…ever,” the company states.

“We’re proud to offer you the cleanest (and tastiest!) products on the market. Best of all, our ingredients are sustainably grown and responsibly sourced.”

‘Sustainable dietary practices’

According to Forbes, CEO of Laird Superfood Paul Hodge said: “After thoughtful consideration and developing a strong relationship with the DMV team, we believe they are the best partner to help us deliver the mission and vision of the company.

“Danone aims to inspire healthier and more sustainable dietary practices around the world, which is perfectly aligned with the vision of our founders.”

DMV’s CEO Laurent Marcel added: “We are confident that Laird Superfood’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle and the quality of their functional products and ingredients will continue to appeal to consumers and retailers.”

He also praised the company for being a ‘powerful brand with a unique story’ and said DMV was ‘excited’ about being able to seal the partnership.
