Stand-up comedian and cancer survivor Tig Notaro has announced that she went vegan in an attempt to heal her chronic pain.
Known for her Amazon series titled One Mississippi, Notaro decided to adopt a vegan diet along with her co-star and wife, Stephanie Allynne.
The performer shifted her diet in a bid to address the chronic pain she still experienced even after five years of being cancer-free.
Cancer
Following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2012, and a double masectomy, Notaro began performing a stand-up act titled Hello, I Have Cancer to spread breast cancer awareness.
“I’ve been in chronic pain since I was sick five years ago,” Notaro told W Magazine.
“I just tried shifting my diet dramatically. I became pain-free four days into shifting my diet, so we’ve just been trying to educate ourselves more about it.”
The comedian has also turned to actor Alicia Silverstone’s cookbook, The Kind Diet, for vegan food inspiration.
She added: “I just love looking at vegan food and reading about different health news alerts and new discoveries.”
