Online vegans have branded a chef ‘disgusting’, ‘disgraceful’, and ‘mean’ after she bragged about secretly serving animal products to a group of vegans.
Laura Goodman, the chef and co-owner of Carlini in Shifnal, Shropshire, made the announcement in a Facebook group.
At first she wrote: “Pious, judgmental vegan (who I spent all day cooking for) has gone to bed, still believing she’s a vegan.”
She later added: “Actually I should have said ‘they’re’ not a vegan…not ‘she’s’.
“Started with asking me to telephone them, over Christmas, to discuss the dietary requirements of their guests within a set time frame, and ended with me wondering why I’m explaining this simplistic post to a pious c**t.”
The post led to a slew of social media users posting negative reviews on Trip Advisor and the restaurant’s Facebook page.
‘Wrong’
Online commenters branded the chef’s actions wrong – saying they could even lead to someone being ill.
Many speculated that eating animal products after a period of abstinence could lead to being sick, with some calling for a food safety investigation to be carried out.
One user wrote: “They need a health inspector to shut them down for contaminating people’s food.”
Another social media user added: “This lady should be charged with assault.
“We are vegan for a reason, to disregard our wishes and boast about contaminating food is at least a sackable offence.”
‘Shut down’
An event has now been set up calling for a protest outside the restaurant.
The event page says: “Laura Goodman the chef and co-owner of Carlini restaurant spikes a vegan customers food and boasts about it on social media.
“This restaurant needs closing – who else’s food are they spiking? Lets get outside and promote veganism.”
‘No meat’
A spokesperson for the restaurant has put out a statement.
It says: “We want to assure everyone that the meals were all prepared to our usual high standards and in accordance with the Food Standards Agency. No meat was used in any of the dishes.
“We are passionate about creating high quality food and all of our chefs are trained to understand the different dietary requirements of our customers, many of whom are vegetarian and or increasingly vegan.”
The restaurant deleted its Facebook page following the furore.
