Tabitha Brown, a beloved vegan TikTok personality and actress, has been nominated for a major media award that celebrates Black culture in the media.
The star is up for Outstanding Social Media Personality at the 52nd National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
This year, the event is set to feature the likes of Michelle Obama, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz and Samuel L. Jackson.
‘Innovations and creativity’
It is the first year the awards have included the category, which seeks to recognize social media creators. Other categories recognize top films, television series, and leaders in social justice.
‘Over the years social media has evolved mainly due to the innovations and creativity of people of color. We are excited to expand our categories to honor content creators who keep us entertained and informed’, said Karen Boykin Towns, of the NAACP Image Awards’ National Board of Directors.
The category’s remaining nominees include Tiffany Aliche, Desi Banks, Kevin Fredericks and Karlton Humes.
Tabitha Brown’s success
Brown rose to fame since she went viral on TikTok for her carrot ‘bacon’ recipe. She has since secured an acting role in The Chi on Showtime, and also featured in a major Veganuary advert.
Additionally, she won second place in the top ten TikTok creators of 2020.
The NAACP Awards Show takes place on March 27, and voting is available until then.
