Popular shopping destination Camden Market has announced a ban on sales of fur, which will come into effect on Thursday.
The market joins the growing list of fur-free markets and retailers in the capital.
These include Spitalfields, Selfridges, and Liberty – as well as designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney.
Suffering
PETA Director of Corporate Projects, Yvonne Taylor, said: “Whether it’s a fluffy rabbit-fur key ring or a vintage fox-fur coat, all items made of fur are a product of extreme suffering.
“Today’s kind shoppers want nothing to do with cruelty – and PETA commends Camden Market for doing the right thing for animals and consumers.”

Ban
In a statement made to PETA, a Camden Market spokesperson said: “Having reviewed the position of the market with regard to traders selling fur, Camden Market’s owners, LabTech, will be implementing a ban on fur from March 1, 2018.
“Whilst we respect and encourage independent business, with many niche traders, we do not feel fur has a place in Camden Market in 2018.”
PETA is calling for a #FurFreeBritain, urging the UK government not only to retain an import ban on cat, dog, and seal fur during Brexit negotiations but also to extend it to cover the fur of all animals.
