Film director Ava DuVernay and actor Benedict Cumberbatch have been crowned 2018’s ‘Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrities’ by animal rights charity PETA.
Every year, the charity celebrates high-profile figures bringing positive attention to the vegan lifestyle and plant-based diet.
Among the other contenders for 2018 were musicians Ne-Yo, Jason Derulo, Gaby Moreno, will.i.am, and Swizz Beatz as well as actors Thandie Newton, Sofía Sisniega, Zac Efron, and Ellen Pompeo.
Telling the world
According to PETA, the pair are ‘saving animals’ – not only through their lifestyle choice, but by talking about it in public.
The charity added: “DuVernay, the barrier-breaking 13th and A Wrinkle in Time filmmaker, has pointed out on Twitter that going vegan is a social justice issue, and as the Oscar-nominated director told The Hollywood Reporter, ‘my mom always said to treat others like you like to be treated. … [E]veryone wants to be … respected and treated in a loving way’.”
Emmy award-winning actor Cumberbatch spoke out about his lifestyle on a number of occasions while promoting his movie Avengers: Infinity War. “When Time Out London asked how he got in shape for the role, he was quick to respond, ‘I eat a plant-based diet’,” says PETA.
Past winners of the annual award include Ruby Rose, Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, Jhené Aiko, Ellen Page,and Jared Leto among others.
