Major broadcasting company BBC has highlighted Lewis Hamilton’s love for the plant-based lifestyle as a major highlight of 2019.
In a series of videos, BBC Sport created a summary of Hamilton’s recent achievements in preparation for the Sports Personality Of The Year Award.
‘The most successful British driver’
The Formula 1 champion, who has been described as ‘the most successful British driver’, already scooped the award back in 2014 – and has been nominated consecutively for the last three years.
“Hamilton is interested in fashion, extols the virtues of a plant-based diet and often posts about his beloved bulldogs,” BBC Sport states.
Vegan
The vegan athlete often speaks out about the benefits of a plant-based diet, as well as the exploitation of animals.
Earlier this year, Hamilton shared graphic footage of the leather industry to almost 13 million Instagram followers – urging his fans to ‘never buy leather’.
“I woke up feeling good today, but this has just broke my spirit. This is so graphic, so barbaric. PETA how can I help stop this?” he wrote alongside the video.
“She’s wincing from the pain of being smashed with a sledgehammer. She was still moving when they stabbed her.
“Her skin is now out there somewhere, likely turned into a belt or jacket. Her life was worth more than a piece of clothing—please, never buy leather.”
