This year’s Bafta awards ceremony will serve guests a vegan starter and dessert, as part of its plans to become carbon neutral.
Attendees have also been asked to ‘make sustainable choices’ regarding clothing – with Joker star Joaquin Phoenix wearing the same Stella McCartney suit to all award ceremonies this year.
Bafta has ditched giving out ‘goody bags’ to guests too, stating it was ‘not a very sustainable thing to be doing’ – attendees will now receive a gifted wallet made from recycled plastic.
‘Net positive impact’
According to Harpers Bazaar, a spokesperson for the event said: “Sustainability is very important to Bafta, and we’re doing more than ever before. The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment.
“From travel and food to branding and materials, Bafta is ensuring the awards are as sustainable as possible.”
“Bafta [is] giving people the tools to do more (e.g offset travel, sustainable fashion guide) should they want to. The LCF sustainable fashion guide is provided as one small part of our wider sustainability efforts where we are looking at every part of our awards to do more than ever before.”
