An activist has stormed the catwalk at London Fashion Week, PBN can exclusively reveal.

The anti-fur protestor took to the stage during the Mary Katrantzou show earlier today.

As she was led away by security, the as-yet-unnamed campaigner shouted: “Shame on you. Shame on all of you!”

Surge

According to Earthling Ed, Co-founder of activist collective Surge, the protestor was at London Fashion Week [LFW] as part of the multi-day demonstrations against fur.

He told PBN: “This is the fourth time we have protested against London Fashion Week – we are demanding that the British Fashion Council bans the use of fur.

“The Mary Katrantzou show was a private one, but Surge activists were told where it was going to be, and one got inside, where she was able to demonstrate her disgust at the use of fur.”

The video shows the protestor storming the stage.

‘Dialogue’

A spokesperson for the British Fashion Council told PBN: “We keep an open dialogue with industry; from designers, to media, retailers, business leaders, Government and global brands.

“As representatives of the British fashion industry we support the creativity of our designers and do not believe that it is our position to define or have control over their creative process.

“That said, we believe in the humane rights of people and animals and would encourage any designer who is using the platform of London Fashion Week to make ethical choices.”

Abuse

They added: “Our Positive Fashion platform spans the Models First Initiative which is designed to stamp out any form of maltreatment or abuse in the industry workplace and our designer support programme includes sustainability workshops and best practice sourcing and ethical trading guides.

“Additionally, in 2017 we launched the BFC High-End and Designer Manufacturers Database, a national database of UK manufacturers, which aims to make it easier for designers to gain ethical supply chain certificates and facilitate successful relationships between designers and production units.”

‘Positive’

According to the spokesperson, for London Fashion Week in February, over a third of the brands in the British Fashion Council’s Designer Showrooms feature its ‘Positive Fashion logo’.

They added: “This celebrates designers who are adhering to sustainable principles within their businesses and in turn promoting and contributing to positive change within our industry.

“Additionally, over 90 percent of LFW designers that were interviewed confirmed they will not be using fur and we understand the remaining to be using bi-products of the food industry such as leather and shearling or ethically traceable sourcing.”

Fur

The incident followed an earlier anti-fur stunt at LFW.

At the end of last week, a protest by animal rights charity PETA saw activists paint the message ‘wear your own skin’ across their bodies, and pose outside the event. The animal rights charity SURGE were directly involved in driving this weekend’s direct action event.

‘Not ours’

Protestor Charlotte Bone (far left) said: “Whether it’s the fur of a frightened fox or angora rabbit or the skin of a gentle calf, it’s not fabric, and it’s not ours for the taking.

“With so many innovative, high-quality vegan fabrics available, there’s simply no excuse for wearing an animal’s skin or hair.”

PBN has contacted the British Fashion Council for comment.
