Animal rights advocate Rohit Ingle has embarked on a journey to peddle across India in a bid to raise awarenss of the cause of veganism.

The 28-year-old Mumbai-based professional, who has been a vegan for over two years, was inspired by high profile vegan activist James Aspey to undertake the bicycle tour himself.

Setting out to cycle 19,000km across the nation to persuade people to drop animal products, Ingle has started his ride from Mumbai, and reached Surat, Vadodara on November 3.

The vegan campaigner, who trained for two months ‘to develop physical stamina’, has motivated his decision to fight for animal rights saying: “I love animals more than humans.”

Vegan

Discussing his transition toward veganism, he told local Ahmedabad Mirror news outlet: “It’s easy when you listen to your heart not your habits.”

Although Ingle didn’t manage to convince his family to eschew animal foods, the animal rights activist has been successful with a number of people.

He recalls advising one person to pursue veganism: “During an awareness meet in Vadodara, I met a guy and spoke to him about turning vegan in stages and giving the body time to adjust.

“Gradually, eliminate meat, dairy products, and then all animal products over many weeks, while adopting alternatives. We talked for over 30 minutes and he was convinced to turn vegan.

“Such things make me more determined to pursue the campaign.”

Family

Speaking about his family, he added: “My parents have always been non-vegetarians and in spite of trying to make them aware of veganism, they resist changes.

“It has sure affected our bond but, you love [parents] no matter what.”
