UK retailer Waitrose is launching own-brand vegan ‘fishless fingers’ this month, costing £3.99 for a pack of six.

The fishless fingers which are said to have a subtle fishy taste, are made from tofu with a crispy coating.

Waitrose recommends making a classic fish finger sandwich with the product, together with its own-brand vegan tartare sauce and sourdough bread.

“After the successful launch of our new vegan and vegetarian range in October 2018 we’ve been working to see what other interesting dishes and products we can add to the range,” Chloe Graves, Chilled Vegan and Vegetarian Buyer at Waitrose & Partners said.

“The Fishless Fingers are a great vegan alternative to a much-loved food which we hope our customers will love.”

In addition to the launch, in 2018, Waitrose become the first major supermarket to offer a dedicated vegan section in response to customer demand.

“Our current selection of products has been selling really well week after week, with requests for more choice coming from our customers and partners, so we could clearly see there was an appetite to have more vegetarian and vegan options in our shops,” Graves said at the time.
