Upmarket supermarket Waitrose has launched own-brand vegan bacon.

The bacon, which comes in two formats – Smoky Streaky Slices and Smoky Streaky Pieces – is made from seitan.

It joins Waitrose’s growing vegan range, which it initially launched in October 2018, and includes products like pizza, mac and cheese, and fish cakes.

‘Carefully smoked’

“Making delicious, innovative, and great quality vegan products is a huge part of what we do,” said Simona Cohen-Vida, Vegan Product Developer at Waitrose & Partners.

“Our vegan bacon strips have been carefully smoked to get a deep rich flavor, and the spices used with the seitan makes them perfect for frying.

“Try them in a sandwich with lashings of tomato sauce or pop them on top of your favorite vegan burger for the ultimate Friday night feast.”
