A San Francisco based food start-up is looking to set up vegan vending machines – first locally, then nationally.

Innovative business leCupboard, which has a storefront in Church Street, is planning to launch two machines in unknown San Francisco locations next month.

The company – which has more than $2 million in seed money – says its social mission is to ‘turn our food system rightside up’.

According to leCupboard: “Under the current food and retail industries, our norm is to accept compromises at the loss of accessibility, health, and sustainability. We have paved another way to turn the food system rightside up.

?”We source from some of the most nutritious soils in the world, creating jobs for women artisans globally. Each dish has been designed to give you a full range of nutrition and to embrace the ingredients’ natural healing properties for your mind and body.”

Health

Lamiaâ Bounahmidi, Founder and CEO of leCupboard, says: “The goal is to reconnect preventative healthcare with food. Everyone is going around talking about food as medicine, but there is more to it than going organic or eating vegetables.”

The machines won’t carry the usual fare – candy bars and snacks – but rather healthy meals like chia pudding breakfast cups and zucchini noodle bowls, retailing for around $8.

Plans are to roll out 30 of the machines in the next three months – and up to 200 across the country after that.
