A UK-based vegan pizzeria is set to open a plant-based cheese factory after scooping a cash injection.

Purezza, which has branches in Camden and Brighton, secured £35,000 of initial funding from Bran Investments after winning Pitch + Plant – a business investment pitching competition run by Vevolution.

During the competition, Purezza unveiled a new concept called Mozzarella 2.0 – a 100 percent all-natural vegan lab crafted mozzarella alternative, which is free from palm oil, soy, gluten and nuts as well as chemical-based additives and preservatives including modified starch, lactic acid, and titanium dioxide.

According to Purezza, the rice-based cheese – which it says will be a far more ethical alternative to dairy-based cheeses – will be sold retail as well as supplied to its own growing restaurant chain and other businesses looking to serve vegan options.

In a statement to Plant Based News, Tim Barclay, co-founder and co-owner of Purezza, said: “This investment is extremely exciting for us, and sets the wheels in motion for where we want to take the business. We’ll be

continuing to raise funds for the factory in coming weeks, and look forward to distributing our mozzarella to stores and restaurants in the near future.

“We’re currently seeking further investment and welcome any interested parties. We look forward to expanding Purezza and changing the world for the better.”

Purezza plans to raise further investment and seek crowdfund via Crowdcube in the near future.
