A vegan alternative to mincemeat, made entirely from organic sunflower protein, is to launch in the UK.

Just Wholefoods, a plant-based company best known for its organic gummy Vegebears, showcased its sunflower mince at the Food Glorious Food competition, where it received praise from TV presenter Adam Henson and Celebrity Master Chef winner Phil Vickery.

The product, which is free from soy and gluten, is currently priced at £3.70 for a 72g box – which is said to serve four people.

‘The possibilities are endless’

“This mince alternative is packed with fiber and protein and is under 60 calories per serving,” Just Wholefoods website reads.

“There’s also the fact that it tastes great and is just perfect for all your hearty dishes – chili sin carne, lasagne, stuffed peppers, the possibilities are endless…”

Major UK retailers

The product was featured as a finalist in the Natural & Organic Products Showcase, where Just Wholefoods pitched the meatless-mince and landed a deal with major UK retailer, Holland & Barrett.

52 of Midcounties food stores in Gloucestershire will also stock the sunflower mince, following its success from the Food Glorious Food competition.
