Vegan JUST Egg Named Among Smartest Innovations Of 2018

Vegan JUST Egg has been named one of the ’10 Smartest Sustainable Products of 2018? by Time magazine.

The product, which is made from mung beans, was created to ‘to scramble and taste just like eggs’ – but with a lower environmental footprint.

“The animal agriculture industry is responsible for around 15 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to a U.N. estimate, thanks to the immense resources required to raise and feed animals,” according to Time magazine.

“The JUST Egg cuts down on those emissions with a vegan egg replacement product made from a plant called mung bean.

“Cooked right, it tastes pretty close to the real thing.”

JUST Vegan Egg is currently available in Veggie Grill outlets in the States, and was set to launch on online retailer Jet in August (though at the time of writing, does not appear to be available on the site). It is also available in some Hong Kong outlets, and at the Grand Hyatt Singapore hotel.

Earlier this Summer, it was announced that JUST had struck a distribution deal to bring the highly-anticipated product to Europe.

“When we started our journey, I imagined a day when JUST would form alliances with some of the biggest food companies in the world to expand their existing toolkits to bring new opportunities to retailers, restaurants and consumers from Birmingham, Alabama to Barcelona,” announced company Founder Josh Tetrick

“All along, I’ve said that we alone can’t fulfill our mission of helping everyone eat well. We need partners to work with us to achieve our goal of building a just food system. That’s why I’m proud to share the news that JUST has entered into an agreement in principle with the Italian headquartered Eurovo Group.”
